PBwiki Security Dictionary

 

Public wiki -  Open on the broader web, available for anyone to see but must have a password to edit. 

 

Private wiki -  Only those who are invited to your wiki are able to see your wiki. Everyone must have a password to see and/or edit.

 

 

PBwiki 1.0

 

PBwiki 1.0  Invite Keys- Passwords are called invite keys.  You can share a single invite key with anyone you want to edit your wiki.

 

PBwiki 1.0 Wiki wide Access Control *premium feature*- PBwiki 1.0 has wiki wide access controls.  This means that you can set different invite keys for 4 different access levels.  Share the invite key of the level access you want your user to have.

 

  • Admiministers -  You can delete pages, change and disable passwords for Moderators, Contributors, and Readers. Admins alone have access to the wiki's Settings page. Only share an Admin password
  • Moderator - They can delete pages and files, including revisions and revision histories.
  • Contributor -Contributors can edit pages and revert pages to previous versions. They can also upload new files and create new pages. Contributors don't need to be super-trusted, since they cannot perform any action that cannot be undone.

  •  Readers - Can only read the wiki, cannot make any modifications at all.

 

 

I can see, and change the access level of my wiki participants have by checking in the users panel.

 

Hideable and lockable pages *premium feautre* - You can keep pages private from your wiki participants with hideable pages.  Locakable pages allows you to share the content but lock it from edits.

 

 

PBwiki 2.0

 

One click sharing -  Share your wiki using the "share" link on the sidebar or in your wiki settings.  Pbwiki 2.0 does NOT have invite keys.  This means you always know who is on your wiki and everyone must have an email address.

 

Wiki wide access controls - Set limits on what individuals can do on your wiki.

 

  • Administrators - You can delete pages, change and disable invite keys for Editors, Writers, and Readers. Admins alone have access to the wiki's Settings page. Only share an Admin password with people you really trust!
  • Editors - Editors are trusted helpers who are super-privileged Writers. They can delete pages and files, including revisions and revision histories. Editors should be highly trusted, since they can delete your data irrevocably.
  • Writers -  The recommended default for sharing. Writers can edit pages and revert pages to previous versions. They can also upload new files and create new pages. Writers don't need to be super-trusted, since they cannot perform any action that cannot be undone.
  • Readers - Readers cannot make any modifications at all to a wiki. They only can read the pages, RSS feeds, and files. They can see page revision histories and diffs. Readers don't need an invite key in a public wiki.

 

Folders level access *premium feautre* - Group your pages by folders.  Set access controls over specific folder. 

Page level access *premium feature* - You can control access on specific pages.  Work individually with just one student, or invite a teacher outside the classroom to work on just one page.

 

Public Pages - Create one public page on your private PBwiki.  Share the url with your peers, parents or other students to show off completed work.

 

Private pages - Create private pages on your public PBwiki.
